Job Description :

Individuals’ primary responsibility is the Quality Control of product batches as they complete compounding and are prepared to be moved to the packaging environment. The timely evaluation of the batches is critical to maintaining the production flow within the batching area. The QC testing is required to be completed prior to moving the bulk product out of the compounding kettles. Testing is against established specifications and product appearance attributes. Critical judgement along with business acumen are important characteristics for this role as decisions are to be made that effect the value and capacity of the operation to fulfill product demands.

The individual will create and maintain a QC testing plan that supports compounding and plant operations with timely Go / No Go decisions, and adjustment recommendations to batches to bring them within compliance of established specification ranges for key attributes. Adjustments are typically for viscosity, increasing or decreasing, and for pH. Strong relationships with compounding personnel, Plant Operations, and R&D will need to be established to ensure seamless communication and collaboration to make necessary decisions and adjustments.


· Provide QC support to Ramm Beauty in evaluating and adjusting bulk batches of product from compounding in support of Plant Operations to deliver product within established specification limits to the packaging floor.

· Work with R&D and batching personnel to calculate and implement adjustments to any bulk batches that test outside of acceptable limits.

· Catalog adjustments made for future reference should similar attribute adjustment become necessary on like products.

· Chart batch trends to track accuracy of batching personnel, looking for tendencies that can be proactively addressed to learn from batches outside of acceptable ranges, and from batches that are within specification. Identify key attributes that drive batch results for future avoidance.

· Provide assistance to R&D with testing of Stability samples as needed.

· Prepare micro test samples for submission to an outside lab, manage testing to ensure completion, file results upon receipt.

· Maintain testing equipment and calibrate on a regular schedule.

· Maintain a lab notebook to record results of each batch tested and any adjustment calculations required,

· Catalog / file incoming ingredient documentation, such as MSDS, COA, etc.

· Support regulatory submissions by cataloging MSDS, IL’s FG COA’s etc. in support of international product registrations.

· Establish a formula / FG retain program, catalog, and maintain retains for future reference should product issues arise over time.

· Review aged inventory to determine suitability for utilization in future batches. Retest as necessary ensuring key ingredient attributes are within specification tolerances.

· Support warehouse and Purchasing personnel in maintaining accurate inventory counts of all ingredients, performing spot checks and cycle counts as necessary to validate NetSuite statistics.

· Maintain an open mind when it comes to batch acceptance or ingredient usage. Use business sense in determining the fate of batches or ingredients, applying good financial discipline to all decisions.

· Develop and present periodic reports on KPI’s, including batch trends by product category, overall batching effectiveness, aged inventory reports and disposition recommendation.

· Troubleshoot issues and recommend corrective action.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:

· Minimum 2 years’ experience in product development / QC and testing the Hair Care and Health and Beauty product categories.

· A bachelor’s degree in chemistry is a plus, or equivalent work experience.

· Knowledge and application of good laboratory practices.

· Proficient in lab testing, specifically pH, Specific Gravity, Viscosity, and other key product attributes.

· Ability to form recommendations and deliver with confidence to gain team alignment on go forward direction.

· Good record keeping practices, lab notebook entries, documentation files, etc.

· Ability to develop trend analysis based on results over time, corroborating results over time to identify opportunities for improved consistency of products batch to batch.

· Ability to interface with all personnel through Company Management, comfortable in communicating issues and opportunities to Management to enhance overall operations

· Strong leadership skills with proven ability to interface and influence diverse groups of employees, providing mentorship to others, ability to prioritize their own efforts, and those of subordinates, to ensure completion of all required tasks

· Ability to handle multiple tasks with varying degrees of difficulty.

· Strong communication skills, Spanish language skills a plus.

· Experience working NetSuite or similar ERP system a necessity.

· Strong computer acumen and organizational skills are critical.

· Cataloging data, retains, lab notebook maintenance, ingredient inventory, and document management require accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
