MS or Ph.D. Industrial Hygienist or Exposure Scientist

Seeking an MS or Ph.D. Industrial Hygienist or Exposure Scientist with a keen interest in further developing their skills and expanding them into the field of health risk assessment of contaminated soils, air, water, sediments, consumer products, workplaces, and foods.

The candidate should want to be in a fast-paced environment with a desire to learn more about exposure science, applied/industrial toxicology, epidemiology, science in the courtroom, as well as the application of regulatory and scientific approaches to quantitatively characterize the hazards posed by chemicals.

The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in learning about a wide range of related scientific disciplines, the monthly content of the twenty related journals, and bringing all this information together to identify solutions to toxicology challenges.

Many assignments deal with highly visible regulatory initiatives or mass torts involving exposures to chemicals in the workplace, community and via consumer products. It is possible or likely that the candidate will routinely evaluate original scientific studies, as well as design and conduct original research, which will be conducted by an outside lab.

This is a unique opportunity for someone to be on the ground floor of a new firm.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Critically evaluate published papers in the environmental sciences, toxicology, epidemiology, occupational medicine, and industrial hygiene.
  • Perform quantitative exposure and risk assessments.
  • Assist with the production of technical work products, presentations, and proposals.
  • Work with senior scientists who serve as testifying experts in toxic tort litigation.
  • Conduct research that may be presented at scientific conferences or submitted to scientific journals.

Qualifications for this Position Include:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in toxicology
  • Educational or practical experience in the application of risk assessment is helpful
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An insatiable appetite for learning about the intersection between the environmental sciences, medicine, business, and the law, then using this information to solve problems and then describing in writing
  • Aptitude for multi-tasking among various projects Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
