Job Description :

The Manager of Software Development is responsible for driving a team of software developers, business analysts, and Quality Assurance Engineers to successfully deliver software products. This person will use systems thinking, and innovative technology to design and develop our Test/Assessment Delivery platform which is used by 20 million students in the US (United States) and other parts of the world. The manager will be expected to develop and mentor an extremely high-performing team. The manager is expected to meet team goals in terms of quality, cost, and time. The manager will be able to use the latest technology to solve customer problems by delivering innovative assessments.

You will be working across software groups, functional groups, sales, and program management as well, and keeping senior managers informed while they give you the support you need to create a word class testing platform. Output like roadmaps, deliverables, and user stories matter, but outcomes, i.e., how many teachers and students’ lives did you impact matter most!

LOCATION: Remote – US

Responsibilities:

  • Gathering, evaluating, and prioritizing requests for product changes, enhancements, and new features
  • Evaluating recent technologies that may be incorporated into future releases of the product
  • Participating in all product activities related to release and iteration planning, to ensure that the team has a clear understanding of the goals and can complete development on schedule
  • Creating clear and thorough acceptance criteria to ensure that the team understands when work is complete; verifying that the acceptance criteria have been met, and participating in the retrospective
  • Tracking product roadmap and project issues to completion
  • Maintaining close relationships with all internal stakeholders to communicate upcoming releases, as well as gathering feedback on customer and prospect needs
  • Collaborating with management to provide product status and reports on roadmap progress
  • Providing product demonstrations
  • Responsible for financial & resource planning, staff management, mentoring and performance evaluations
  • Work as SCRUM Master and should know the AGILE software development process
  • Ability to do product management for some software products

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree required – preferably in Computer Science or a related field, with 5 years of experience in a high-tech environment
  • Masters or MBA (Master of Business Administration) preferred
  • Must have software product engineering experience

  • Ability to manage multiple projects during the same time effectively, and efficiently
  • Ability to identify and document business processes and requirements
  • Ability to communicate business needs and ideas to technical team members, such as programmers and QA (Quality Assurance) engineers, during the project life cycle
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to make timely and sound decisions

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (preferred)

  • PMP (Project Management Professional), MBA, Scrum Master Certification

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, Pearson provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only, the range of starting pay for this role is $110k – $140k. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program, and information on benefits offered is here.
