Job Description :

SUMMARY- The Jury Coordinator manages and coordinates the jury system for Saline County, while working as a liaison between the Office of the Circuit Clerk, The Circuit Courts, the Judiciary, and potential jurors to provide complete, representative juries for jury trials. Hours may vary from 20 to 40 hours per week according to jury trials and may require duties after normal working hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Directs all communication with Petit Jurors and Grand Jurors. Instructs jurors as to their duties during their jury service. Works with jurors in arranging time off required during the jury term and prioritizes excuses. Coordinates all correspondence with potential jurors.

2. Prepare and mail all juror questionnaires, maintaining an accurate database of all eligible jurors in Saline County. Work with the Chief Deputy and Circuit Clerk to communicate number of jurors to be summoned for each jury term and for each jury trial.

3. Maintain the Jury Program System by entering and updating qualified jurors.

4. Prepare summons from juror profiles as received from the Arkansas Secretary of State for juror orientation, and subsequent terms, three (3) times per year.

5. Maintain a variety of logs and files of departmental information regarding Petit Jurors and Grand Jurors.

6. Work directly with the Judges and the court staff in arranging to have jurors present for trials when needed.

7. Prepare a computer listing for the Auditor to compensate jurors.

8. Answer questions from attorneys, other office staff and the general public regarding jury issues.

9. Provide juror questionnaires as needed for presiding attorneys.

10. Answer juror emails and phone calls on a daily basis.

11. Be present during all trials while showing no favoritism to any party.

12. Export data and prepare a spreadsheet of juror compensation for Saline County Financial Department.

13. Verify and mail juror payments for each trial attended.

14. Prepare form for quarterly reimbursement of jury expenses and submit to Administrative Office of the Courts and meet required deadlines.

15. Maintain the jury deliberation room before and after jury trials.

16. Must be present for all jury trial and remain at the courthouse for the duration of the trial.

17. Other duties as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and must have strong computer skills. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years high school including training in office equipment and computer software applications, and 1-3 years of responsible secretarial experience, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires good knowledge of the operations of the judicial system.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, legal documents, operating instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, ability to speak effectively with the public and employees of the organization. Requires good knowledge of the English language and spelling.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, RESISTRATIONS Obtain Passport Certification within 60 days

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands describe here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or fell; and talk; or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distant vision.
