North Wind Site Services is focused on providing engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions response (MMRP), regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and records and facility management.

The Environmental Scientist/Engineer supports environmental projects in Alaska. Supports the sampling of various media, field data collection activities including groundwater quality and GPS surveys, and support environmental drilling operations. Support project management, prepare planning documents and reports, supports field teams conducting site assessments, and interacts with regulatory agencies to develop successful solutions to project challenges. Performs environmental investigation, , regulatory compliance, soil and groundwater remediation, logistics, waste management, and other environmental services.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST/ENGINEER ROLE:

  • Perform field work to collect soil, water, air, or other samples.
  • Collaborate with environmental scientists, planners, hazardous waste technicians, engineers, and other specialists.
  • Communicate scientific and technical information to clients, or internal audiences through oral briefings, written documents, and formal meetings.
  • Participate in the preparation of work plans for a wide variety of customers.
  • Prepare, review, and update technical and recommendation reports.
  • Provide assistance in regulatory analysis, and planning or reviewing database development.
  • Obtain, update, and maintain plans, permits, and SOPs.
  • Provide technical-level support for environmental remediation and investigation projects.
  • Monitor progress of environmental improvement programs.
  • Participate in field efforts to support the successful execution of projects.
  • Participate in preparation of work plans and reports for a variety of customers.
  • Under the guidance of the Project Manager, evaluate analytical laboratory data and draw conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Must acknowledge and clarify customer inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented and addressed.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to determine project schedules.
  • Facilitates communication across the organization and effectively interfaces with customer, contractor, and site personnel on a daily basis.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST/ENGINEER ROLE:

  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in environmental science or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in scientific or engineering discipline including Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, and/or Environmental Management
  • Current HAZWOPER certification, CPR/First Aid required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency working with databases, data entry, and data analysis
  • Maintenance of databases, technical data and files.
  • Coordinates and interfaces with appropriate department personnel.
  • Requires versatility and a willingness to support several activities with the flexibility to move between assignments.
  • Department of Defense (DOD) and/or Air Force experience is preferred.
  • Requires good interpersonal skills in dealing with others.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving variables in non-standardized situations.
