Job Description :

Duties

  • Maintains a stock of expendable supplies at each building.
  • Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy powered scrubbers and buffers.
  • Uses powered cleaning equipment; cleans and oils it, and changes brushes and accessories.
  • Vacuums/cleans rugs using heavy vacuum cleaner, and adjusts, cleans, and oils these machines and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them.
  • On a regular and recurring basis operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located within the District.

Qualifications

An appointment to this position is restricted by law (5 U.S.C. 3310) to veterans who are preference eligible as long as such applicants are available.

Screen-out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision as evidenced by performing basic custodial duties to include cleaning floors, and cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms, and operating light duty motor vehicles such as pick-up trucks.

OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that you possess the skill level that has equipped you with the particular job elements to successfully perform the duties of Custodial Worker (MVO) without more than normal supervision.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: Moderately heavy physical effort is required and occasionally lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds.

Work Environment: Is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment. Occasionally works outdoors in possible inclement weather conditions and/or extreme temperatures.
