The Agency Instructor I is responsible for delivering and conducting training courses, on an as needed part-time basis, as a part of the Homeland Security National Training Program cooperative agreement. The Agency Instructor I will participate in the development, planning and delivery of Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) courses following approved curriculum course outlines and timelines to perform all course exercises as explained in the Instructor Guides. This position will actively participate in the updating and revising of a course as a team member in the curriculum development process; reviewing new instructional materials; maintaining records, reports, and documentation of activities during course delivery. This position will also be responsible for classroom and topic preparation, delivery of classes including demonstration with teaching aids and completing required administrative paperwork. The Agency Instructor I will maintain technical competencies and skills, travel to remote locations, and provide classroom and field instruction. This position reports to the Training Director.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Four years of experience working in a city and/or county Emergency Operations Center
  • One year of adult education and/or training
Required Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • 10 years or more experience in a leadership role in any combination of the following emergency response fields: technical local, state, or federal emergency response discipline from law enforcement, fire, hazmat, EMS, health care and/or public health, public works, medical, military, emergency management, public information discipline, government administration, public safety communication or other designated
  • Experience facilitating courses/exercises supported by Homeland Security National Training Program – HSNTP
  • 3 years or more with a State or Federal response organization
  • 5 or more years as a Chief Officer
  • Two or more years of experience in training adults
Physical Requirements:
  • Regular use of computer/keyboard/telephone
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, movement of training equipment up to 30 lbs. with assistance
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles
  • Skilled in utilizing various learning and active listening strategies
  • Excellent small group facilitation and team building skills
  • Working knowledge of basic office software and instructional programs to effectively use computers
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups of various sizes
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, dissemination techniques and methods
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to use a variety of media to present course materials
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to orally comprehend and express information and use inductive and deductive reasoning
  • Ability to interact with clients and staff positively and professionally
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Notifications:

  • This position may require 50% or more travel.
  • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
  • This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon the continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance.
  • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
  • This position allows telecommuting per TEEX guidelines.
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:
Training Course Delivery – 90%:
  • Ensures all training materials are prepared before class and secured at the completion of class
  • Follows approved curriculum course outline
  • Completes required administrative tasks associated with delivery of training
  • Delivers various courses within a specified program
  • Maintains subject matter expertise on topics of instruction
  • Presents lessons in a positive manner using adult learning principles and ensures all aspects of lessons and activities are covered during instruction
  • Participates as a Subject Matter Expert during course/exercise developments and reviews as needed
  • Travels to conduct training courses as assigned
Other Requirements – 10%:
  • Submits time, expense reports and receipts within the required time frame
  • Completes all required TAMUS training by the due dates
  • Wears appropriate professional attire and represents TEEX in a professional and positive manner
  • Performs additional work duties as assigned
